Every day we receive dozens of requests to provide consecutive interpretation services – not just in Kiev, but in other Ukrainian cities too, and also abroad. Most often our interpreters are asked to translate from English into Ukrainian, or the other way around. The second-most frequent requests are shared among German, Italian, Spanish, and Chinese. Even so, the KLS Translation Bureau is fully equipped to provide interpretation services in any language. You can read more about interpreting, and the differences between consecutive and simultaneous interpreting on our blog – where our experienced interpreters share their own experience. One of the big pluses of consecutive interpreting is the ability to make use of it in interactive settings – for example, during practical or training sessions, as well as accompanying delegations travelling abroad, and with calls via phone or Skype. A classical example of this kind of interpreting work is probably business meetings, and business negotiations. Generally speaking, consecutive interpreting works best with small audiences
Specific aspects of consecutive interpreting.
The format of consecutive interpreting includes pauses in the speech of the presenter (or lecturer, speaker, trainer) so that the interpreter can translate what they have said for the audience. The main feature of consecutive interpreting is flexibility, since the only requirement is the presence of the interpreter, with no need for any additional equipment. The interpreter usually sits alongside the speaker, making this kind of translation very reliable – with minimal loss of information in the process. This makes it an ideal choice for translating medical consultations, or court processes.
When mentioning the main drawbacks of consecutive interpreting, one is that it can only be used for one pair of languages at a time. Another is that the consecutive process causes the duration of events to double in length.
Quality in consecutive interpreting
We provide consecutive interpreting services in accordance with the ISO 18841 international standard. All the interpreters must pass appropriate testing.
