Brain Rot: Oxford Word of the Year 2024

Language continually evolves, reflecting changes in social sentiments and trends. This time, the Oxford Word of the Year is “brain rot”, reflecting the ambiguous essence of the digital era. Although often interpreted with humor or criticism, the phrase emphasizes the regular overuse of online information and its deteriorating effects on our minds. Indeed, endless scrolling and watching poor-quality content can blunt critical thinking and exhaust us mentally.

While admitting that the consumption of online information has risen exponentially within recent decades, we know, however, that there are ways to keep our minds clean and sharp. For this purpose, there’s no need to resist digitalization or refuse tech advancements. However, it’s important to always separate the wheat from the chaff.

At KLS, we are passionate about language and how it captures cultural tendencies. We also realize the tremendous role of precise, correct, diverse, and effective communication. Words like brain rot remind us of the power of expression, its cultural premises, and its effect on interactions. Therefore, we make relentless efforts to purify the messages we translate, accurately deliver ideas, and support the quality of the content we are dealing with.

Let’s nourish our brains and consume conducive content, hoping that the word of 2025 will be more inspiring! No doubt, KLS will help to spread such content internationally.
