When every shade matters: Keeping translation precise

The recent interview of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy by Lex Fridman spurred a controversial discussion that went beyond politics. The discourse, in particular, revolved around the aspects of language and translation.

What’s fascinating about this interview, is its dubbing into three languages: Ukrainian, Russian, and English performed by AI. The participants surfed from one language to another, while AI technology replicated the voices and emotions of speakers. However, the automatic translation was criticized for misinterpreting certain messages.

Lex Fridman agreed on the tech flaws and promised to look for tools driving translation accuracy. He also dedicated part of his afterword to the power of language and the importance of providing precise translation tools and technologies. Viewing language as both a barrier and a pathway to understanding the nation’s essence, he believes that human expertise is irreplaceable in delivering nuanced meanings.

This idea of combining AI and human capacities in translation strongly resonates with us. The interview and the discussion it triggered highlighted the role of accurate translation in removing hurdles, regardless of the topic you address. Although AI empowers, only human interference can fill the words with inner sense by retaining subtleties and contexts.

At KLS, we fuse human touch and innovation to eliminate misunderstanding. When every shade matters, precision is paramount.
